About Reiki

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese healing practice that supports balance, relaxation, and wellbeing through gentle, hands-on touch. The word “Reiki” refers to the natural, subtle energy that sustains all living things. This way of practice was realized by Mikao Usui in 1922 on Mount Kurama and has since been shared around the world.

Reiki is simple to learn, calming to receive, and accessible to people of all ages and conditions. It helps quiet the mind, ease tension in the body, and support the natural healing processes already present within each person.

Usui Reiki Ryōhō

Usui Reiki Ryōhō is the original form of Reiki practice developed by Mikao Usui. It includes hands-on treatment, meditative practice, and the cultivation of presence and awareness. Through Usui’s students—most notably Chujiro Hayashi and Hawayo Takata—this practice has been passed down in an unbroken lineage to the present day.

What Reiki Feels Like

People often describe Reiki as a gentle warmth, calming of the mind, and a pleasant sense of settling in the body. The experience is different for each person, but the intention is always the same: to support the whole person—body, mind, and spirit.

Reiki Today

Reiki practitioners offer this gentle form of care in homes, clinics, wellness centers, and even hospitals and palliative-care settings. It is widely recognized for its ability to help reduce stress, promote deep rest, and support emotional balance.

Koshin Reiki Style

Koshin Reiki is rooted in the classical early teachings of Usui Shiki Ryōhō and continues the lineage transmitted through Hayashi and Takata. The heart of the practice remains the same today:
place your hands,
be present,
and allow the natural ease of Reiki to arise.
