Treatment
Reiki treatment is a structured method. From the beginning, the practitioner learns a clear sequence of hand positions that is applied consistently to the body. This structure provides a stable foundation and allows the practitioner to develop through repetition and direct experience.
In Koshin Reiki, treatment begins with a fixed pattern of hand positions. The hands are placed in a consistent sequence, covering the entire system so that the practitioner learns the method fully rather than working in fragments. This consistency allows the practice to develop in a reliable way over time.
Structure Comes First
The structure of treatment makes learning possible. In first degree training, students are often surprised by how simple the method appears. The hands are placed one position at a time, and the practitioner remains in contact while allowing the experience to unfold.
This simplicity is deliberate. It removes guesswork and creates a stable environment in which the practitioner can observe what happens through contact. With a consistent structure, development becomes clear and repeatable.
Learning Through Contact
Reiki treatment is learned through the hands. The practitioner places the hands and remains with the experience, allowing attention to settle and the process to unfold.
At first, the experience may seem subtle. Students often expect clear sensations or immediate feedback, and when this does not happen, they may begin to apply pressure or concentrate more intensely. This is corrected in training. The hands are not used to force a response. When pressure is released and the hands rest naturally in contact, the quality of the experience becomes clearer.
This is how the system is learned, through demonstration, correction, and direct experience in contact.
Sensitivity Develops Over Time
Sensitivity in Reiki, often referred to as byosen, develops gradually through repeated contact. As the practitioner continues to place the hands in the same sequence, day after day, differences in sensation begin to emerge. Some areas feel distinct from others, and the hands naturally remain longer in certain positions.
This development does not need to be forced. It becomes clear through repetition, and the structure of treatment allows sensitivity to develop in a stable and reliable way over time.
Treatment Is Training
Reiki treatment is part of the practitioner’s own training. Through repeated treatment, both self-treatment and treatment of others, the practitioner develops stability, sensitivity, and presence.
The sequence remains the same, and the experience deepens through repetition. This consistency provides the conditions for development and allows the practitioner to refine what is felt through the hands.
The Complete Method
As training continues, the practitioner works within a complete method of treatment.
This includes:
- a fixed sequence of hand positions covering the entire body
- the gradual development of sensitivity through contact
- adjustments in timing based on direct experience
- the completion of treatment through specific finishing methods
These elements function together as a single method rather than as separate techniques.
A full presentation of this treatment structure is included in Koshin Reiki: The Complete System, where the sequence, development, and function of each part are shown in context.
Treatment Within the System
Treatment develops within the larger structure of practice and training. Daily self-treatment establishes the foundation, meditation stabilizes attention, and guidance from a teacher ensures that the structure is maintained and that the practitioner continues to develop.
Together, these create the conditions under which treatment becomes clear and consistent.
